The User-Friendly Project

The Index of Care was designed by bioarchaeologists for bioarchaeologists. However, disability and care are integral parts of life. Most of us have received care, given care, or both - and everyone's insights are valuable.

We are asking you to log into the Index of Care and play with it, then think about how it might be improved to make it:

  1. easier for non-bioarchaeologists to use, and
  2. more relevant to Tribal and First Nations community concerns.

To help identify any changes needed to the Index of Care we are asking for your ideas on the issues below. All responses will be kept anonymous. There's no obligation to answer all the questions listed here, but we'd greatly value your response to the questions relevant for you.

At the end of the questionnaire we provide a space for you to ask questions directly of us. In order to get back to you we will obviously need your contact details, but these will be kept strictly private.

Assessing Interest

  • Would you be interested in taking part in archaeological research into past health-related caregiving practices in your community?

  • Do you think that other members of your community would be interested in being involved in researching health-related caregiving in the past?

Quality Control

  • When you tried using the Index (either during research or in 'test mode'), what problem(s), if any, did you encounter? What was the impact of the problem(s) on your experience of the Index?

    ProblemImpact of Problem
  • Do you think the Index could be a useful tool for researching caregiving in your community?

  • Is there any content in the Index that you found culturally insensitive or inappropriate?

Achieving a User-Friendly Index of Care

  • Do you think that changes are needed to the Index of Care to make it more user-friendly – for you and/or for community members?

  • Are there particular topics or areas you would like to see addressed by a user-friendly version of the Index?

  • Do you have any other suggestions for making the Index more user-friendly?

Additional Comments

  • We greatly value your observations and ideas. The questions above aim to gather your thoughts on certain aspects of the Index of Care, but don't pretend to cover everything. Please share your views on anything we've missed in the box below.

Any Questions

  • Are there any questions you would like to ask us? So that we can get back to you with answers, please provide contact details in the space provided at the bottom of this page. Your contact details, along with any identifying information you give us, will be kept strictly confidential.

  • Would you like to be kept informed about progress on this project – or even become involved yourself?
